I purchased the two camera system and this camera is Super! Yes you have to run a wire to power it (Duh!). But the signal is sent via two.4ghz. RF (the wireless portion). You can mount the little DVR anywhere that you can get reception. I have mine down in the Den subsequent to my recliner, but, you can move it very easily if you need to monitor from, say, the kitchen. The two way "intercom" is nice to have!
If you want power outage protection, you will need to have to install a ups power outlet for each camera (use 1 for a computer and hook the camera supply into the outlet from the ups)
I set up the program and installed two cameras in an afternoon without the need of any stress. It did take a small organizing, but, it was truly straightforward.
It is a lot less costly than the multi thousand dollar systems. And the images (even after dark) are spectacular!
I have this up and operating for a single month and it is outstanding...the picture quality is really good, sound high quality superior, and night vision is excellent, I would order this once more..A+
